Canadian Pacific Railway
Industry: Transportation

Canadian Pacific Railway, through its subsidiaries, operates a transcontinental railway in Canada and the United States and provides logistics and supply chain expertise. CP provides rail and intermodal transportation services over a network of approximately 13,200 miles. CP transports bulk commodities, merchandise freight and intermodal traffic.

We implemented a Document Management and Imaging system for managing the invoices and proof of delivery documents (PODs). The PODs are linked to the invoice transactions in SAP, so accounting can confirm the deliveries before sending invoices for payments. Additionally, PODs are printed along with invoices and sent to customer for payment and confirm the delivery of the goods

Business Challenges:

CP Rail customers started asking for the proof of delivery documents along with invoices from CP. At the end of the day, all the PODs are mailed to the centralized location. Without an Imaging and Document Management system, CP had no easy access to track and link the PODs to the invoices and send them to the customers.

Business Benefits:

  • Centralized location for storing documents
  • Easily link PODs with invoices
  • Single interface to view the invoice transaction in SAP including the signed PODs
  • Print invoices and PODs from SAP for faster payment processing and increased customer service

Technologies Used:

  • IBM Content Manager 8.3
  • IBM Commonstore for SAP
  • Kofax Ascent Capture

Our role:

We worked with the business and technology groups responsible for SAP to design and develop a solution that integrates with SAP. We also configured the IBM Content Manager and Commonstore for SAP to store Proof of Deliveries (PODs) and configure the linking to the invoices in SAP for printing. As well, we developed the custom .NET applications to enable nightly loading of the PODs.
